So this is the same thing that I found in Korea.Although it´s much easier to find American comics.
The only difference is when I do find the comics are so expensive, I often don´t buy them. Prices for any imports here are often inflated. At the same time when you find a sale on English books. You will often pay only a fraction of the original price. That´s also a big IF, some popular comic aren´t going on sale.
But I miss brick-and-mortar shops, they´re like a second home.
2.)Cheap/Used Video Games
Now, this isn´t specific to the U.S., Japan to me had the best market for used games, but here´s there is only one way to buy a game.
And I don´t know if I mentioned this but, all electronics here are really expensive. The games here are the same region as the U.S., but I can´t afford to buy anything. The price for one recently released 3DS game is the equivalent of half my rent…
… so …
Here´s an example. The Switch is more than I make in a month, and double the minimum wage.
1.)Gundams and Mecha
Now one of my favorite things to do is buy Gundams and build them, this is called Gunpla. It´s one of my favorite hobbies. I picked it up while living in Korea. Now I´m not talking about the ones that you just buy and display, I´m talking about the ones you build. You have pieces, instructions, and it ones of my favorite way to spend my free time. It´s like building model cars but cooler. And they just don´t exist here. Now I do have one mech with me to build(that´s how much I love it), but I´m gonna wait till the right moment.
Gundam: These are giant robots manned by a person. Think about the movies such as Pacific Rim.Also think about the Megazord from MMPR.
Mech(a): Mechs are any kind of man operated robot, that doesn´t come from the gundam franchise. So examples are Neon Gensis Evangeleon, Power Rangers,Pacific Rim etc etc.
You wake up and there´s only one thing you are aware of…
And that´s that you´re dead.
And you only have one night to solve your murder. Tomorrow morning you will disappear. But that´s ok, you have powers called Ghost Trick. You have the power to manipulate items and if someone dies you can go back four minutes in time to save them.
The only caveat is, you can´t save yourself.
Not to mention the fact that you have no idea who you are or whom to trust. Nothing is as simple as it appears, and as you help others and search for your murderer, you come to realize how deep this rabbit hole really is.
Let’s start off by saying this, I am treating this convention as a solo entity. I recently realized that almost every convention I’ve been to happens to be one of the biggest in that country, or it’s somewhere in the top 10 there.
So first off let’s talk about who this convention for … …. TEENAGERS.
Now that’s a not a bad thing,I’m just not one anymore.
But you know what I did notice, those kids looked exactly how me and my friends did in high school. Punk, buttons, anime T-shirts,buying posters, plushies and pocky, those kids were us.
Now if I were to be honest, I only stayed for like 10 minutes.
I got bored.
Well I’m a vendor/artist/panel kind of women. I can spend hours going through artist alleies deciding what jewelry, comics and random things to buy. There just wasn’t an artist alley, But there were a couple of vendors and video game competitions.
So as far as this con goes, it’s a good place for teenagers here to meet others with similar interest. It was small, but for the audience it was perfect .
So out of seven Dragon balls it gets a two.
Well, the convention would have gotten a four D.B. ,if it hadn’t been for one guy at the door, not letting me leave when I wanted to.
I understand only so many can come in at once but ,you know what makes that easier, people leaving.
The Switch is officially out, and guess who doesn´t have it?
That would be me.
Now you probably wondering why. Well first off, I´m poor. Secondly I´m poor and currently living in Colombia. All my savings went toward gettting myself here, and the little bit I have in stocks, are going to stay there. Everyone that I know that loves Nintendo has it, and well now I´m inspired. What I´m going to do is, play through my Nintedo Library.
I made sure that before I left the country, that I would have some of the best games ever released on the Nintendo DS. I knew I wouldnt have a way to buy games(region lock) while I was here, so I made sure I had enough to last me for ,well …. ….
IDK honestly it depends on how I play.
I´ve honestly been way to busy to play since I´ve been here… …Ok well let´s say Netflix has taken over my free time. I am now going to dedicate minimum one hour a week to my Nintendo library in the hopes that I will beat every game that I have.
The game I going to start off with is probably my least favorite of my favorite series:
Ok, don´t hate me but I didn´t play it as a kid so I´m coming at it without my Nostalgia Glasses, and this whole ¨rewind every three days¨ thing is irritating. But I bought it at full price…so I´m going to finish it.
In a world not so different from ours there is a game played called Duel Monsters. It’s the most popular game globally, and is played by everyone, young and old. Tournaments are held yearly to determine who the best duelist are. It’s all fun and games right?…
Meet Yugi Moto who also though it was fun and games. He is a student at Domino High School and lives with Grandfather;and in his spare time he likes to duel with his friend. His life probably would have been normal. If he hadn’t beaten the world champion in dueling, Seto Kaiba. Beating Kaiba got the attention of Maximillion Pegasus, the creator of duel monster.
He invites Yugi to his tournament know as Duelist Kingdom. Not by way of normal invitation, but by way of force, by stealing Yugi’s grandfather’s soul. With no other choice Yugi must compete to save his grandfather. To do this he has to beat peagasus at the very game he created. He needs to discover the mysterious powers of the seven minllinium items, especially the one in his possession.
Maybe this games isn’t as innocent as everyone thought.
First off you should know that my birthday was also during this time peroid so I may be a little overly pink goggles because of it but I digress.
Anime Weekend Atlanta(which will be refered to as AWA from this moment on) is an anime convention held every year in Atlanta, Georgia. It’s one of the few conventions that I have been going to for a couple of years now.I think my first time going was like six or seven years ago.I even did my first cosplay there.
It is held in Cobb Galeria Centre, and it a moderate sized conventions, not the biggest anime convention in the country by no means, but it is one of the largest ones. It’s focus is….lol anime of course.
What can you do see?
There was no shortage of cosplayers.
Like if I were to be totally honest I’ve never went to a single AWA panel, why… well I’m just too busy doing stuff with my friends to ever make time for it… honestly…
First of all I am a bit biased by this because one of my besties works there. But this is one thing I’m gonna let you just experience on your own. These are based on maid cafes in Japan
Ok so, I’ve been to some massive dealer rooms before, and I gotta say I love AWA’s because it isn’t a huge convention. You’re probably wondering what that has to do with it.Well it’s not big like Dragon Con,which means that your average everyday Jane and John can afford to sell their awesome stuff there.Though there are a few people that have worked for the big 2,I feel like there are way more indie comic book artist at AWA. Also this festival is about anime which is done in Japan, so you get massive amounts of Japanese styled things. So much ramune. Other than ramune, pocky , green tea kitkats, along every other Japanese snack.
SECRET: Ramune the colorful drink in which you pop a marble into the drink to open it,it is not a super popular drink in Japan.Though conventions would try to convince you otherwise, while in Japan(Tokyo/Kyoto) I only saw one of those glass bottles being sold on the side of the road.Someone was selling them in a Styrofoam cooler along side other stuff. Now I did see Ramune in a Daiso store, but it was in a tin bottle, for just about a dollar.
Another thing that makes me happy is the amount of lolita clothing there.I do believe there are like four different booths dedicated to on of my favorite clothing styles.Too bad I can’t afford any of them. Now one thing I always look forward to at buying is Gundam(Gunpla) and Mecha Model Kits.Honestly I prefer non-gundam model kits.I managed to find two for my birthday.
Like at most conventions that I’ve been to there is always a couple of balls, raves,or other type of dancing. My problem with Dragon Con and AWA’s raves are that well after walking around all day .I refuse to stand 30 minutes just to get into a rave not knowing if i’m going to like it or not.So I snubbed the rave and went swing dancing for the first time with my friends. What I learned.
Well I learned that I’m not good at swing dancing.
Fifties dollars for two days jammed pack, and I have no regrets,Happy birthday me
Dragon Con is a South Eastern U.S(Southern) Convention held every year in Atlanta,Georgia. Though I had heard of it ,I had never previously had the money to go.So I decided before I leave, I had to attend, because who really knows when I’ll be back in the country.
It’s a big convention spanning three hotels and two alternate buildings. At first I wasn’t sure exactly how to classify this conventions, on it’s website it points at itself for being a Science Fiction, Fantasy, Gaming, Comics, Music, art, music, film and just pop stuff as a whole convention. But if we are to be totally honest it’s mainly a Science Fiction and Fantasy convention.
Which is awesome, because although anime is one of my biggest and original loves, I have a much longer history with Science Fiction and Fantasy than anything else.I can tell you for a fact that Star Gate:SG1,Sliders,Quantum Leap,Xena,Herculese,Power Rangers, and Star Trek:TOS where some of my first shows. So although I did watch a good bit of anime as a child,it dwindles in comparison to the amount of science fiction and fantasy that I consumed.
So unlike at other conventions you are getting a very high dosage of Dr.Who,Star Wars,Star Trek, and Star Gate(not in my preference order but the popularity order). But you also have major amounts of stuff like Power Rangers and other shows of that sort. Not to mention the a lot of famous stars such William Shatner, and the stars from many top shows such as Stranger Things,Buffy the Vampire Slayer, etc etc
What can you do and see?
Like it’s a major part of the con is cosplaying. The pictures I have take are nothing in comparison to the little amount of pics I’ve taken. I’ve never seen so many cosplayers in my life. And doubt I will again honestly(unless I go to SDCC or NYCC).
One of my favorite things I was able to do was go to a live podcast panel and a Dragon Con panel. The first picture is of a Black Girl Nerds Panel ft Afua Richardson.
This picture is of a Power Ranger panel featuring Jason,Billy,Apha, and Lord Zed.Even for this panel(Power Rangers isn’t big like Star Trek or Dr.Who but it doesn’t have a dedicated fan base) .I lined up two hours in advance and I still wasn’t first in line.If you’re going to a panel make sure you do it early,or you may not get in.
Full of all of the awesome nerd things you could think of.I saw a lot of awesome Star Trek stuff which made me really happy(it’s not the most popular show so finding stuff can be a little difficult).I wish I would have taken more pictures. On one level was just stuff: steampunk, Star Trek,Dr.Who,anime, plushies,Princless volumes, and a gigantic number of memorabilia from any fandom you can think of.So the next level is full of independent artist who are selling there crafts, and there are also a few comic book artist. Most are those who have done a cover for the big 2, but there were a few independent artist trying to build a fan base. What’s cool about that is if you buy their books, they’ll sign them for you.So for me, I just bought a couple of comic books( and got them signed by the artist),Star Trek coin cases,a gundam(Iron Blood Orphan), and a Legend of Zelda Purse.I spent most of my money on food actually, all the restaurant in that area of Atlanta are really expensive(especially during Dragon Con) not to mention the hour and thirty minute wait time(Next time I’m packing lunches).
One of the major things that I love about it was how random it was. These were some things I just randomly bumped into. There were so many others, but I’ll leave those up to your imagination.
T-Rexes(though they said they were Raptors) fighting Sith and a Knightwing.
How often will you see Team Rocket members dancing to the Cantina Band
Dragon Con was totally worth the money,I would love to go again.
Ummm… … well. This isn’t going to be my normal synopsis the show is just too short, I would be giving the whole story line away. It’s violent, bloody, crude, and gory. All surrounding a vampire named Alucard ,who is by far the strongest vampire I’ve ever read or seen,EVER. It is in a world where last of the Hellsing family alongside the Church of England and the Catholic Church wage war against vampires(and anything else that might come along). Now throw in some Nazis to the mix and you’ve got a party. The battles are extreme, every person except for one of our newly turned main character Seras is a jerk.I wanted my main characters to win,but for the first time ever I was able to watch a anime without identifying with anyone.
It’s a bleak dark anime, like the death toll is well over 3,000,000,and the the character I really liked, turned out to be a jerk.At the same time it’s not dark for the sake of being dark,it’s a war(think of Blade it’s always a war to keep the vampire population down),and although the villains reasons are horrible, and garbage, you sadly kind of get why they’re doing it.It also lightly gives you a question of what makes you human versus a monster. Though it doesn’t at all makes you think and question your humanity the way Parasytedoes, it’s done in more of a passing thought.I would say the gore is on the level of Attack on Titan if not way way worse(then again the in the Attack on Titan world titans have drove humanity to the point of extinction). But at the same time ghouls and vampires actually eat humans vs titans just eating them because they can just to regurgitate them up later.
Also this is not the original anime but the closest to the original manga.
If you like horror or vampire animes it’s worth a watch,
In a world brimming with yoma(monsters) who not only eat humans but can hide themselves in our bodies, humanity has to find a way to survive.Well the saying is the best way to fight a monster, is with a monster, and that is exactly what the Organization did, they made a monster.
They infused yoma blood with human and made Claymores. Half women/half yoma hybrids whose sole purpose is to save humanity from being eaten. The Organizations, hires them out to town and villages who find themselves ridden with monsters. The sad thing is these silver eyed women are feared almost as much as the yoma they hunt.Though they are the only ones who have the capability to hunt and kill yoma, they are often shunned by the very society they protect. Journey with Clare as we see just how far the rabbit hole goes,as we learn about why she choose to become a Claymore, as well as the history of The Organization that makes these women.
The road ahead will be bloody if you choose to accpet it,
